People often fear mushrooms because they don’t know how to tell the good ones from the bad, yet learning the technique of identifying mushrooms is no harder than learning to tell a carrot from an orange. But the process of identifying fungi are a bit different than those associated with identifying plants. With mushrooms, we use all the senses to examine shape, scent, hue and taste, and it is important to understand where mushrooms will grow and the conditions that foster them.
