Frosty Family Bonding

Recycled two liter bottles, cut in half, and a few dozen one liter canning jars made quick improvised mini-cloches to shield our young tomato plants from a flash frost. Soil was banked around each plant to stabilize the containers and provide additional insulation. All the tomato plants survived the 29F night.

Recycled two liter bottles, cut in half, and a few dozen one liter canning jars made quick improvised mini-cloches to shield our young tomato plants from a flash frost. Soil was banked around each plant to stabilize the containers and provide additional insulation. All but eleven of the tomato plants survived the 29F night.

Family bonding is when the girls and I all dart out just short of midnight to cloche 120 young tomato plants with recycled, cut-in-half 2 liter pop bottles and canning jars due to a flash frost warning. And in the morning, you see how we grow canned tomatoes!
