Waking Up the Berries

raspberries strawberriesRaspberry canes groomed and ready for spring, and beyond–strawberry beds waking up and already greening!  The strawberries are currently our earlier crop, though by next year I would expect the haskaps to provide even earlier harvests.

Years of loving organic tending has caused this relatively small set of beds to be prolific yielders, sometimes filling a third of a deep freezer with strawberries and a couple crates of raspberries.  From the fruits of these beds and groomed canes, we make wines, cheeses, yogurts, cakes, pies and sometimes just have them with cream on summer days.
