Nothing changes for the better in this world until we, as a species, return to a fundamental truth: The things that bring the best joy are not those that can be bought or owned. They are good green place to live; family and friends that love us; a dog’s kind eyes, a sweet breeze and the sound of surf, and countless other treasures that no one can possess or rightly buy and sell. The things that bring the best joy are beyond price. Money’s role is little beyond making way for sufficient shelter and food. Beyond that, it is all illusion. Until the Zeitgeist of modern folk returns to this truth, not only the green world suffers but we remain, in the most fundamental way, profoundly impoverished.
