Earth has many languages, albeit almost forgotten in this sad, alien epoch. Yet the land speaks through the shape of rock and stone, soil and flowing water. The minds of animals are revealed in their prints and spoor, in broken stalks of grass and bent twigs and little leavings. The sky tells its doings in the heights and shapes of clouds and the dances of wind. If you learn to speak these languages, you are at home and can commune with the Green Man and come to know the shaman’s mysteries. This is the education of the shaman, the element oft neglected yet essential.
